The United States is governed by leaders whose response to learning that an unarmed US Navy ship is involved in an attack by an overwhelmingly overpowering unidentified hostile force is to order that ship to be abandoned under fire while she is still under attack and calling for help.
“No one attacks the United States and gets away with it.”
So says former member of the United States House of Representatives, former Director of the Office of Management and Budget, former Chief of Staff to President Bill Clinton, former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, and former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta in a speech before the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
USS Liberty survivors are living proof that Mr. Panetta is wrong.
Since we were attacked by the combined forces of the Israeli Air Force and Navy we have been waiting for the US government to investigate the attack.
Aside from a woefully inadequate and admittedly incomplete investigation by a US Navy Court of Inquiry there has been no investigation of the attack on our ship.
Ever since the USS Liberty Veterans Association was created in 1982 we have been engaged in a constant effort to convince the US government that an attack on a US Navy ship deserves Congressional scrutiny, evermore so an attack that included the use of unmarked aircraft, the jamming of our radios on both US Navy tactical and international maritime distress frequencies, the deliberate machine gunning of life rafts we had dropped over the side in anticipation of abandoning ship and the slow circling of our ship by the torpedo boats as they fired from close range at USS Liberty crewmen who were trapped topside or who ventured topside to help our wounded shipmates.
While we have been able to amass a group of dedicated, patriotic Americans to help us share our story we have not yet tried to encourage those who participate in the social media arena to help us in our effort.
With this blog post we would like to change that situation.
Each of the posts in this blog includes the option of sharing the post via a significant number of social media outlets. If everyone who reads these blog posts were to share it with their social media outlets it would go a long way to educating the American people about the attack on the USS Liberty and about our effort to ensure the attack and ongoing cover-up of that is finally and completely investigated.
You can subscribe to this USS Liberty Veterans Association blog and be notified by email of any updates and will be able to share those with your social media outlets as well.
If you use Telegram you can be informed of updates to this blog by going to http://bit.ly/2aBw9LC.
With your help we can finally put this to rest and allow USS Liberty survivors to return to being the normal Americans we were before the attack.
We need your help.
